In this article the relationship between compounding and inherent prop
erties of HNBR grades related to low temperature performance and high
temperature ageing in air and power steering fluids will be addressed.
Ageing is analysed quantitatively as a function of time and temperatu
re with an empirical method, Results are converted into maximum contin
uous operating temperatures. Data for HNBR grades and for HNBR in a po
wer steering seal application are analysed.
