The synthesis of 8-phenyl-substituted 2H-azaphosphirene pentacarbonylc
hromium and pentacarbonylmolybdenum complexes is reported. New informa
tion on the rearrangement cascade, which finally leads to 2H-azaphosph
irene ring formation, has been obtained through isolation of a reactiv
e intermediate. A comparison of the C-13-, N-15-, P-31-NMR, and UV/vis
spectroscopic data and single crystal X-ray structural data of 3-phen
yl-substituted 2H-azaphosphirene chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten co
mplexes is presented.
