Abstract
We present a complete quantum mechanical treatment of the exponential instability of CARL. We show that the Glauber P function, in general, is the one that results from a superposition of a coherent probe field and the spontaneous emission chaotic field. In particular, if no prob e is present the photon statistics during the exponential growth is th at of a chaotic thermal field. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
