Abstract
The quadruple perovskites Nd2-xBa2+xCu2Ti2O11 have been prepared for v alues of x in the range 0.0 to 0.6. Samples with x = 0.0 and 0.3 were studied by neutron powder diffraction. Cu/Ti and Nd/Ba cation mixing w as found to be present in both compounds and the excess Ba in the x = 0.3 sample is located in the Nd Id (1/2 1/2 1/2) site while the Nd Ic (1/2 1/2 0) site between the CuO2 layers is fully occupied by Nd ions. No increase in bond valency sum for Cu in the CuO2 layers was observe d in the x = 0.3 sample. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
