Sh. Lee et al., MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ENGINEERED SURFACES BY WAVELET TRANSFORM, International journal of machine tools & manufacture, 38(5-6), 1998, pp. 581-589
This work introduces a wavelet transform technique based on the detect
ion of the multi-scale view of the components of a signal, The main ad
vantages of wavelet transform over the existing signal processing tech
niques are its space-frequency localization and multi-scale analysis o
f roughness and waviness motifs, After an extensive review of the math
ematical and signal processing fundamentals of the wavelet technique,
numerical implementations are carried out to explore the potential app
lications of wavelet transform and its inverse transform multi-scale a
nalysis of roughness and local morphological characterization by the d
etection of the roughness singularities and 2D motif size of an engine
ered surface. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
