Viral hepatitis continues to be a major cause of chronic liver disease
and one of the most common indications for liver transplantation. Ind
ications for hepatitis A acid hepatitis B vaccination, the transmissio
n and treatment of hepatitis B infection both before and after liver t
ransplant, and the epidemiology, natural history, and treatment of hep
atitis C infection are discussed. Hepatitis G infection is also consid
ered, although the search for a disease associated with this virus con
tinues to be unsuccessful.
