Horseshoe kidney is a common anomaly with frequent associated anomalie
s. The confluence of the lower poles of the kidneys lies anterior to t
he inferior vena cava. The authors were unable to find any reports in
the world's literature of a vena caval obstruction caused by the prese
nce of a horseshoe kidney. The authors report such a case presenting a
