Abstract
A chiral center can be introduced in the lateral alkoxy chains of meso gens containing four rings in the main core. The compounds present a l arge nematic range. Comparison with compounds having a linear chain in dicates the bifurcate character of the chain does not drastically affe ct the nematic range. C-13 NMR spectra in the nematic phase give some indications about the folding of each branch of the chiral chain along the core.
