TUMOR-SUPPRESSOR GENES

The review concerns genes that through their protein products can supp ress tumor development. It considers the strategies of searching for s uch genes, using both the positional cloning techniques and direct sel ective cloning independent of a full-scale transcription map, and desc ribes the functions of the tumor suppressor proteins, subdividing the genes, in accordance with the modern concept, into ''gatekeepers'' and ''caretakers.''
