O. Chambon et M. Mariecardine, AN EVALUATION OF SOCIAL SKILLS TRAINING MODULES WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA INPATIENTS IN FRANCE, International review of psychiatry, 10(1), 1998, pp. 26-29
Cognitive-behavioral techniques, inherent in the UCLA Social & Indepen
dent Living Skins Modules, were evaluated in a small group Of French,
hospitalized schizophrenic individuals using the French translation of
the modules. Acquisition, durability and generalization of skins were
found in the group members who were exposed to seven months of four s
essions per week of skills training However, there were no measurable
effects On quality of life, either in the group trained in social skil
ls or in two comparison groups of patients, Neither were changes noted
in self-reported self-efficacy or self-esteem. Lengthier and multifac
eted rehabilitation programs may be necessary to improve the more slow
ly-changing subjective qualities in the self-perception of individuals
with schizophrenia.
