Ak. Saha et al., L X-RAYS FROM 64 MEV IODINE PROJECTILES IN COLLISION WITH VARIOUS GASTARGETS, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 31(8), 1998, pp. 1771-1779
L x-rays from 64 MeV iodine projectiles in collision with various gas
targets, Z(2) less than or equal to 36, have been studied. The x-ray i
ntensity ratio L beta(1)/L alpha is found to be weakly dependent on Z(
2) between N-2 and Ar, in contrast to a sharp decrease between C and A
l, reported by Dart et al using thick solid targets. Differences in th
e measured L beta(1)/L alpha intensity ratio of iodine with 7+ and 24 charge states impinging on Kr target establishes the minor role of th
e electrons in the N shell of the projectile in the x-ray production m
echanism. The data also support the MO correlation rule of Eichler et
Lll for the asymmetric collision systems.
