Abstract
Well ordered molecular domains of 2-mercaptopyrimidine and 4,6-dimethy l-2-mercaptopyrimidine on gold have been imaged. In contrast to alkyl thiol films, where the arrangement is largely, if not exclusively, det ermined by the underlying gold lattice, intermolecular interactions be tween these molecules appear to be important. A striking 'side-on' arr angement of 2-mercaptopyrimidine molecules has been observed.
