Oxidative transformations of the aldehydes, ketones, and their azometh
ine derivatives such as hydrazones, Schiff bases, azines, and oximes a
re presented and discussed. The oxidants used have been hydrogen perox
ide in the presence of selenium compounds as catalysts, peroxycarboxyl
ic acids, and eerie ammonium nitrate. Some of reported reactions have
practical value in the synthesis of phenols, esters, carboxylic acids,
nitriles, nitrones, oxaziridines, and oxadiazoles.
