Varying degrees of lens cataract and iritis were found in birds of a h
ock of grandparent broiler breeders. Major histopathological findings
included stromal lens alterations with liquefaction (phacolysis) and g
lobule formation, and a lymphocytic-plasmocytic anterior uveitis. Tran
smission experiments were performed to assess a possible infectious ae
tiology. However, a cause for the eye alterations could not be establi
shed.
