Abstract
We analyze the physics of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering particul arly from the 3d transition-metal series. We discuss what types and wi th what intensity we may expect to observe various final states, by co nsidering an array of many particle dynamical effects. We conclude wit h the results of an experiment on NiS1.5Se0.5.
