A rapid test is proposed to determine cobalt with the use of an indica
tor paper containing a nickel complex of 2-nitroso-1-naphthol and diph
enylguanidine. At a confidence level of 0.95, the detection limit of c
obalt is 0.4 mg/L. In the determination of 0.3-5.0 mg/L of cobalt, the
systematic error is insignificant and the relative standard deviation
does not exceed 30%, It was shown that the empirical frequencies of c
obalt detection with the use of an indicator paper fit a normal distri
bution with a sufficient accuracy.
