M. Yavas et B. Goldstein, PHONOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF BILINGUAL SPEAKERS, American journal of speech-language pathology, 7(2), 1998, pp. 49-60
Given the demographic changes currently taking place in the United Sta
tes, speech-language pathologists increasingly are being asked to prov
ide speech and language services to bilingual speakers. The acquisitio
n of more than one language presents unique challenges to speech-langu
age pathologists in the assessment of and intervention for phonologica
l disorders. This paper provides speech-language pathologists informat
ion about common and uncommon phonological patterns across a variety o
f languages, the influence of the sound patterns of one language on an
other, and guidelines for assessment and intervention.
