Ferrous thiochelate solutions were used to absorb NO from flue gas. Th
e absorption rates were studied as a function of pH with a double-stir
red reactor at 50 degrees C. The rate constants of five ferrous thioch
elates: Fe2+ (dimercaptosuccinate)(2), Fe2+ (dithioloxalate)(2), Fe2(aminoethanethiol)(2), Fe2+(cysteine)(2), Fe2+(penicillamine)(2), reac
ted with NO at pH 5.5 and pH 7.0, have been determined. The implicatio
ns of the kinetic data on the use of these iron thiochelate additives
in wet flue gas desulfurization scrubbers: limestone, lime, and sodium,
for simultaneous SO2 and NOx removal is discussed.
