An oxygen gas target at pressures from 5 to 200 mTorr (0.66 to 26.6 Pa
) was bombarded by H+, H-2(+) and H-3(+) ions at an energy of 1 MeV/nu
cleon. The collision region was studied spectroscopically in the UV an
d visible (400 Angstrom to 6500 Angstrom) and shows the presence of O
I, O II and O III lines, as well as several molecular bands of O-2 and
O-2(+). The O I and O II levels were populated up to levels 3 and 4.
The pressure dependence of the intensities of various lines was also m
easured for proton projectiles.
