Aa. Bednyakov et al., INJECTION, BEAM FORMING, AND PARAMETER CONTROL OF SOLID MICROPARTICLES ACCELERATED IN THE ZG-8 ELECTROSTATIC GENERATOR, Instruments and experimental techniques, 41(2), 1998, pp. 284-291
The EG-8 electrostatic generator (at the RINPh MSU) intended for studi
es involving hypervelocity solid particles of a micron size was update
d. 10(3) s(-1)-intensity beams of accelerated Al and Ti micron-size pa
rticles focused into a 10-mm-diameter spot with a approximate to 20-mm
halo were obtained. For accelerating voltages within a 1.5-2.5 MV int
erval, the average particle velocity was approximate to 5-7 km/s. An e
fficient charged particle injector, a system for forming an intense pa
rticle beam in the accelerating tube, and a system for controlling par
ameters of the accelerated particles and for separating the particles
in velocity and charge are described. Experimental results of the effe
ct of particle impacts upon a substrate surface versus the particle ve
locity are provided.
