Abstract
The nucleation stages of the decomposition reaction in a Ni-58-13 at% Al alloy at T = 450 degrees C have been investigated by means of small - and wide-angle polarized-neutron scattering. The use of the Ni-58 is otope for the sample preparation tremendously reduced the incoherent s cattering of the matrix. This, together with the application of polari zed neutrons for studies at T = 12 K, made the detection of extremely small Ni3Al clusters with diameters D < 1 mm feasible.
