Abstract
The effects of hyperglycemia on brain pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) and metabolites (ATP, PCr, and lactate) were investigated at 20 min ische mia, 0, 20, and 60 min, and 4 h reperfusion. During reperfusion, PDH a ctivities were suppressed corresponding to the poor recovery of ATP an d PCr concentrations and the increase in lactate concentration in the hyperglycemic group, suggesting that preischemic hyperglycemia may imp air metabolism by suppressing PDH activity.
