Abstract
Partitioning is a key process in QSAR studies. Experimental and calcul ated log P can be obtained. In the search for new methods of obtaining partition coefficients we have modified the Taylor-Aris diffusion tec hnique to allow the direct measurement of log P within the cell system itself. This technique is applied successfully to two different cell systems and an extrathermodynamic equation between log P for Escherich ia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae seems to be a promising way of ob taining this parameter directly from them.
