HIV can affect salivary gland tissue. Parotid swellings have been obse
rved in a subset of patients who are HIV-positive; the swellings are t
he result of a condition that has been termed diffuse infiltrative CD8
lymphocytosis syndrome. Initially the glandular enlargement results f
rom a massive CD8 cell lymphoproliferation, but with time lymphoepithe
lial cysts become manifest. Two case reports are presented to illustra
te this progression of diffuse infiltrative CD8 lymphocytosis.
