CRYSTAL-CHEMISTRY OF PROTONATED 1,2-BIS(DI-R-AMINOMETHYL)BENZENES - PART I - 1,2-BIS(DIMETHYLAMINOMETHYL)BENZENE PERCHLORATE

The crystals of 1:1 complex of 1,2-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)benzene wit h HClO4 were studied using X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. T he space group is Cmc2(1) with a = 11.679(2), b = 13.129(3), c = 9.980 (1) and Z = 4. The NHN+ intramolecular hydrogen bond is crystallograph ically symmetric. The N ... N distance is 2.689(8) Angstrom and the N ... H ... N angle 123(9)degrees. The perchlorate anion is highly disor dered. The IR spectrum of the crystals shows a continuous absorption i ndicating very high polarizability of the intramolecular hydrogen bond . (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
