DEVELOPMENT OF A 13C-NMR SPECTROSCOPIC METHOD FOR ESTIMATION OF HEAVYALKYLATED BENZENE (HAB) IN INDUSTRIAL OILS USING STEPWISE MULTIPLE LINEAR-REGRESSION
Gs. Kapur et al., DEVELOPMENT OF A 13C-NMR SPECTROSCOPIC METHOD FOR ESTIMATION OF HEAVYALKYLATED BENZENE (HAB) IN INDUSTRIAL OILS USING STEPWISE MULTIPLE LINEAR-REGRESSION, Lubrication engineering, 54(5), 1998, pp. 21-28
The chemometric procedure, stepwise multiple linear regression, was us
ed for the analysis of a complex hydrocarbon mixture of lubricating ba
sestock components. The method allows the use of 13C-NMR spectroscopy
for the precise estimation of heavy alkylated benzenes (HAB) in indust
rial oils. Two separate models were developed: one applicable for the
estimation of HAB in paraffinic mineral oils and the other in naphthen
ic basestocks (refrigeration oils). The two models can predict the per
centage of HAB with a standard error of 3 and 2.6% in the respective b
lends of paraffinic and naphthenic mineral base oils.
