Te. Smith et al., THE REHABILITATION READINESS DETERMINATION PROFILE - A NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOR ADULTS WITH SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESSES, Psychiatric rehabilitation journal, 21(4), 1998, pp. 380-387
In developing a rehabilitation plan for clients with severe mental ill
nesses, several questions arise including which skill areas to target
for rehabilitation and when to utilize specific rehabilitation strateg
ies. The Rehabilitation Readiness Determination Profile (RRDP) is a ne
w expressed needs interview designed to answer these questions. This s
tudy reports reliability and validity data on the RRDP. Twenty-five in
dividuals with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder were administ
ered the RRDP interview, and also received ratings of symptoms and att
endance at rehabilitation groups. Interrater reliability was documente
d for RRDP ratings Readiness ratings were partially influenced by symp
toms (mainly negative symptoms), but did predict rehabilitation group
attendance independent of symptoms. The data support the reliability a
nd validity of a new interview for assessing rehabilitation needs.
