GC FTIR FOR ANALYSIS OF FATTY-ACIDS OF BI OLOGICAL ORIGIN/

Gas chromatography coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectrometr y differentiates fatty acid methyl ester geometric isomers. The spectr a of mono- and di-unsaturated compounds exhibited cis (Z) and trans (E ) specific bands. Cyclic fatty acid monomers showed characteristic spe ctra of the ring structure. The spectra acquired with both the light-p ipe and the direct deposition interfaces showed significant difference s due to the respective vapour and condensed phases used in the system s.
