Abstract
Based on a dense-eas kinetic theory model, theoretical solutions were generated to study and compare experimental and theoretical results fo r velocity profiles and heat transfer characteristics in granular flow s in a vertical chute. The results indicated good agreement between th eoretical and experimentally measured mean velocity profiles but the m agnitude of the fluctuation velocities were underpredicted by the theo retical solutions. Qualitative agreement was found between experimenta l and theoretical results for convective heat transfer. The results in dicated that particle size and the medium density adjacent to the boun dary played an important role in determining the heat transfer at the boundary. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
