Abstract
We prove optimal lower bounds for arbitrary eigenvalue ratios (mu(m)/m u(n)) of the Sturm-Liouville operator with Dirichlet and Neumann bound ary conditions. These imply optimal bounds for the eigenvalue gaps (mu (m) - mu(n)) of the corresponding problem. The method can be generalis ed to consider general separated endpoint boundary conditions.
