Abstract
A thin layer chromatography method was developed for quantification of glucose in human blood serum using preadsorbent silica gel plates, ac etonitrile-water (85:15) mobile phase, methanolic sulfuric acid detect ion reagent, and scanning densitometry. Results are reported for the m easurement of glucose by the TLC method before and after consumption o f a sucrose solution. The method was validated by determining the prec ision for replicate analyses and accuracy by analyzing a spiked sample and also comparing results with those given by a commercial kit inten ded for use by diabetics for home monitoring of glucose levels. The TL C method is simple to perform and can serve for the analysis of other sample types and as an interesting experiment illustrating quantitativ e TLC in college analytical chemistry or biochemistry laboratory cours es.
