Abstract
Two-dimensional echocardiography-guided pericardiocentesis is an accep ted, safe, and cost-effective procedure. Carefully selected patients c an be treated with this technique in an outpatient setting. A consecut ive series of outpatient echocardiography-directed pericardiocentesis performed for diagnostic or therapeutic indications is described. Appr opriate technique and precautions are discussed.
