Abstract
The purpose of this Note is to prove an inequality which 4-dimensional Einstein manifolds must satisfy, relating the Euler characteristic, t he signature, and the simplicial volume. The inequality sharpens Gromo v's generalization [3] of the Hitchin-Thorpe inequality [4]. (C) Acade mie des Sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
