Abstract
Effective absorption and emission cross sections at laser and pump wav elengths are calculated taking into account the transverse modes inten sity distributions in the inner and outer cores of a double-clad fiber . The calculated values of effective saturation powers are then insert ed in a set of differential equations which are employed in the simula tion and optimization of a double-clad fiber laser performance giving results in good agreement with experimental data.
