The reaction of La2O3 with 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoropentane-2,4-dione (Hh
fa) and tetraglyme [Me(OCH2CH2)(4)OMe] in hexane yielded the air stabl
e, ten-co-ordinate La(hfa)(3) . Me(OCH2CH2)(4)OMe adduct. This new add
uct represents a promising volatile lanthanum precursor for low-pressu
re MOCVD applications. It displays a high volatility, which can be rel
ated to a fast molecular reorientation in the solid state as establish
ed by combined DSC, H-1 and C-13 NMR investigations.
