M. Yang et al., PHOTON-NUMBER DISTRIBUTIONS OF LASERS GENERATED VIA PUMP-NOISE SUPPRESSION, Communications in Theoretical Physics, 29(3), 1998, pp. 363-368
The photon-number distribution of lasers generated via pump-noise supp
ression is derived in the photon-number representation. The derivation
shows that the negative probability emerging in the calculation of th
e photon-number distribution in the photon-number representation is no
t caused by the representation itself but by the truncation of the mas
ter equation. Here without truncating the master equation we derive th
e characteristic function and the distribution function of the photon-
number distribution of the laser system with regular pump and with spo
ntaneous atomic decays being eliminated. It is convenient to use the c
haracteristic function to calculate any order of the moment of the pho
ton-number distribution. Such a method can be used to some more genera
l cases, in which the laser system has imperfectly regular pump and th
e spontaneous atomic decays are also considered.
