Abstract
We determined the structural parameters, the mechanical properties, an d the physical characteristics of specimens cut out of an ingot of con tinuously cast steel 45 and from billets obtained from the ingot by ho t helical cross rolling with different reduction. Refinement of the st ructure as a result of hot processing improves simultaneously the stre ngth and ductile properties, and also the magnetic characteristics use d in nondestructive quality control of steel billets. The existence of a correlation between the structural parameters and the magnetic char acteristics make it possible to use nondestructive method; for checkin g the structural state of billets at different stages of the technolog ical process of producing machine parts.
