Mv. Simpson et al., REDUCED LEVEL OF CREATINE-KINASE IN THE PLASMA OF HOLSTEIN COWS SUPPLEMENTED WITH D-ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL ACETATE, Canadian journal of animal science, 78(1), 1998, pp. 147-149
The effects of daily supplementation of 1000 IU of either d-alpha-toco
pherol acetate or dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate to Holstein cows from dr
ying off to 8 wk post-partum on plasma creatine kinase and selenium le
vels in plasma and red blood cells were studied. Supplementation with
either d-alpha-tocopherol acetate or dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate showe
d no effect on selenium levels in both plasma and red blood cells. How
ever, supplementation with d-alpha-tocopherol acetate, but not dl-alph
a-tocopherol acetate decreased plasma creatine kinase significantly (P
< 0.05) prior to parturition.
