Tunalbe coherent extreme ultraviolet radiation has been produced in ni
trogen by third harmonic generation (THG) processes enhanced by two-ph
oton resonance with the a(1) Pi(g)(v' = 1) state and three-photon reso
nance with the c(4)'(1) Sigma(u)(+) (v' = 1) state, respectively. The
highly resolved THG spectra imply that THG can be used to probe the hi
gher excited states and to detect the rotational population bf a molec
ular gas.
