Abstract
Stable crystalline tricarbonyl(indan-2-one)chromium(o) 1 has been synt hesised from relatively unstable indan-2-one by ketone protection, chr omium complexation and ketone deprotection; addition of non-basic nucl eophiles to the ketone of 1 and deprotonation/alkylation procedures pr oceed efficiently and stereoselectively to give good yields of diastet eoisomerically pure products.
