Yk. Kim et al., STUDIES ON PREPARATION OF ULTRA-THIN FILMS OF PRECURSOR POLYMER OF POLY(P-PHENYLENEVINYLENE) VIA LANGMUIR-BLODGETT TECHNIQUE, Thin solid films, 312(1-2), 1998, pp. 291-294
Surface pressure-area (pi-A) isotherms of monolayers of amphiphilic pr
ecursor polymer(p-xylene-bis-tetrahydrothiopenium salt) with heptadeca
fluorooctanesulfate (HFOS), stearic acid and arachidic acid as counter
ions were investigated. A stable Langmuir film was formed by spreading
a mixture of ethanol and 1,1,1-trichloroerhar.e (1:1) of HFOS anion o
n an aqueous subphae containing an ionic poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PP
V) precursor polymer with opposite charge. It was shown by Fourier tra
nsform infrared spectroscopy that Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of PPV
precursor polymer were conposed of p-xylene-bis-tetrahydrothiopenium s
alt polymer complexed with counterions such as HFOS. It was also confi
rmed with UV-visible absorption spectroscopy that multilayer LB films
of PPV precursor polymer were well-formed at molecular level. Surface
morphologies of the PPV precursor polymer LB films transferred at diff
erent surface pressures to a mica were also studied with atomic force
microscopy. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
