Fiber crystals of MgTiO3-CaTiO3 eutectic system are grown using the la
ser heated pedestal growth (LHPG) technique. The as grown crystal fibe
rs of composition (Mg0.95Ca0.05)TiO3 contain MgTiO3 and CaTiO3 crystal
s, and are analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction, SEM and EPMA Crystal
fibers grown between 1650 and 1680 degrees C represent 2:3 and 1:3 com
posite configuration, while those grown between 1700 and 1720 degrees
C show 1:3 connectivity. CaTiO3 crystal grows along the fiber growth d
irection and MgTiO3 phase forms the body matrix of the fiber. The diel
ectric constants, loss factors of(Mg0.95Ca0.05)TiO3 and CaTiO3 ceramic
s are measured and their relationship to crystal growth conditions and
microstructure are discussed. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science
