The dynamics and technical challenges of controlling missiles capable
of high-angle-of-attack Eight are discussed. The missile control effec
ters discussed include thrust vectoring, reaction jet thrusters, and a
erodynamic tail surfaces. A control power analysis is summarized that
indicates the effectiveness of these control effecters over the missil
e's flight envelope. The six-degree-of-freedom dynamics for high-angle
-of-attach missile Eight control are presented. Autopilot design model
s and nonlinear simulation results demonstrating high angle-of-attack
flight are also presented.
