K. Kirali et al., AN UNCOMMON COMPLICATION OF BEHCETS-DISEASE - INTRACARDIAC THROMBOSISNEEDING SURGICAL-TREATMENT, The thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon, 46(2), 1998, pp. 102-105
Behcet's syndrome is a multisystem disorder presenting with recurrent
oral and genital ulcerations as well as uveitis often leading to blind
ness. Although vascular lesions are a common complication of this dise
ase, cardiac involvement is extremely rare, In this unusual case a you
ng man had symptoms primarily related to recurrent right-atrial and ri
ght-ventricular thrombi unresponsive to medical treatment. The intraca
rdiac lesion was successfully treated by surgical excision with the us
e of cardiopulmonary bypass. Surgical treatment should be considered i
n Behcet's disease complicated by cardiac thrombi, when a thrombus rec
urs despite medical treatment.
