Abstract
This article provides an extensive review of the Literature on portfol io use in education. There is a gap in the literature related to portf olio use in nursing education. Portfolios are one method of authentic assessment, showing evidence of student growth and achievement overtim e. Development of the student portfolio promotes collaboration between student and faculty. The Integrated Proficiency-Criterion (IPC) frame work is one proposed method for portfolio development and evaluation, using Benner's stages of proficiency and NLN criteria for accreditatio n of baccalaureate nursing programs.
