Abstract
We report two cases of haemorrhagic surgery in a 6-year-old and 16-yea r-old girl, respectively, whose parents were Jehovah's witnesses and t herefore opposed to preoperative blood donation, but accepting intraop erative blood salvage. Erythropoietin and intravenous iron were admini stered preoperatively to increase red cell mass. Intraoperative blood salvage, including normovolaemic haemodilution and intraoperative auto logous transfusion, avoided homologous blood transfusion. (C) 1998 Els evier, Paris.
