Abstract
An upper limit for the second-order gas-phase rate coefficient for the reaction between ClNO2 and water vapour was determined to be 5 x 10(- 23) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) at 295 +/- 1 K. The liquid-phase reaction between dissolved N2O5 and chloride in synthetic sea salt droplets wa s investigated at ppb concentrations of N2O5 in the gas phase, by samp ling ClNO2(g) and HCl(g) with diffusion denuders. The fractional yield of ClNO2 from N2O5 was 0.64 +/- 0.15 at 295 +/- 1 K over the relative humidity range between 75 and 95%, thus confirming earlier results. ( C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
