Abstract
The C1-C14 portion of altohyrtins (spongistatins) was prepared in a co nvergent manner from 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-D-glucal via a chelation-contr olled methylation of ketone, dithiane couplings with epoxides, and a t hermodynamically-controlled spiroacetalization.
