Among the various functions of natural growth inhibitors is growth inh
ibition. These compounds are represented by some phenolic compounds an
d abscisic acid. Various effects of abscisic acid and phenolics on gro
wth under stress and normal conditions are discussed, as well as ABA i
nteraction with other phytohormones. M.Kh. Chailakhyan's concept of th
e hormonal control over plant development is reviewed in this lecture
with an emphasis on the possible role of natural inhibitors.
