Abstract
We present a banded method of ordered multiple interaction (MOMI) for the scattering of electromagnetic waves by a one-dimensional, perfectl y conducting, randomly rough surface. The forward and backward substit ution of the MOMI is carried out with a banded-matrix forward and back ward substitution approach that scales as N log N for large N, where N is the number of unknowns.
